Elimination Communication our way*

About a month ago we brought home a potty, bought some cloth training pants and started saying ssssssss alot. I wanted to get her familiar with her elimination habits, and see what happened. She is so capable, and we want her to know that. About 60% of her daily eliminations make it to the potty. So we definitely wash alot, but its easier than changing a diaper and washing a diaper! AND cheaper than buying diapers. We went from using a pack of diapers every two weeks to one pack a month. Big difference.

I did read briefly over an Elimination Communication Book called Diaper Free. It was intuitive to what I already thought, but was really encouraging. The sound association chapter really made alot of sense, and Echo caught on immediately. Making a sound when they eliminate such as sssssss. I felt like starting now would make the process of toilet training more relaxed and everyday. Before the strongER will to refuse comes along. So thats where we are! I was prompted to share this because of Jenny's post - which prompted Echo to pull her potty out and poop right beside it.

Eeyore's Birthday Festival

Back in 1963, a professor and a group of liberal Art students decided to start a May Pole festival in at Peace Park in Austin. They commemorated it as Eeyore's Birthday, and so it has been ever since. They have the donkey there himself. Really it is a crowded drum circle with many new age costumes. But lots to look at for a wee girl, and a reason to paint your face. We are always looking for a reason for that. With a snow cone on the side of course...

Little Red Rooster

Tricycle time has come. We three have all been anticipating this new challenge. Echo is pretty enthralled by learning to peddle, and it won't be long. Pushing the peddles one at a time is all she has to figure out. She got the hang of it a couple of times. I will be really glad to walk along side my little peddler all the way around the neighborhood. Here she comes...

The way it is

There is a season for everything. I really live by that. Taking hints when life points you towards or away from doing a certain thing. Even a little journaling here in this place.

Sadly life has taken our camera the last few months. So there.

I cannot get inspired without a photo. Aren't most of us visual learners ?

There have been so many times when I want to post, but without a snapshot, i frown.

So I took it as a I sign and focus like its the early 90's, or 70's sometime. When all of us couldn't jump to the most accessible time sucker since the TV was invented. The season did in fact change here, and my heart calls me outside all day long. Which is a long day. But a peak into little E's everyday happenings is just not going to happen. So on a good day when this old Mac will upload a video or 3.... its coming to you. So enjoy, and I'll be around soon. And hopefully come back with a new conviction to create the Blog I know I am capable of. (he.he.) This blogging stuff is serious.

9 Remedies to soothe a cold

Moister~ Get the humidity going. A humidifier, if you have one? Or run to Target and buy one, like I had to at 8 am. Not Pulling it all out like you walked into a sauna ? Open the bathroom door to the bedroom and let the steaming shower run
Soup for the soul~ While everyone is napping at last, Chicken Noodle soup. Cause the old wives tale is true, chicken stock has healing properties. Add TONES of Garlic, like 7 cloves. And 4 onions, throw some cilantro in at the very end too. High counts of vitamin C. Most importantly, don't get betty crocker, think scratch. Store bought stock and condensed soups do not heal you. Boil those bones!
Aromatherapy~ Run plenty of bathes. Steam up the room before you dip in, and sprinkle some lavender and just a little eucalyptus to clear up sinuses and relax the mind...
Tune out life~ make your hubby call in sick. Because no one gets well when they run themselves down. Wear the babe in a sling most of the day* the only way a toddler will REST.
Simplicity ~ Voices calm and quiet, much humming, kind words and soft touches. Especially a soft touch of serenely cleaning the house up. Dishes spread germs, and well no one is restful in a messy house.
Kombucha ~ it boosts immunity, and detoxifies immediately. Drink it up, in our case love that your brewing it yourself now!
Warmth ~ set home temps to about 74. Socks, and plenty afghans lying around are a must.
Homeopathic ~ Kali bichromicum comes in dissolable tablets, and is cheaper than sudafed. Drink lots of Vitiamin C EmergenCy packets.
Breastfeeding when she can't breathe ~ nurse in the bathtub, nurse her propped up- or make her sneeze right before ( feather tickling).
Caretaker~ forget about your mood altogether, and relish in a day where you were very needed...

Of course I hate to see them sick, But I seriously like giving TLC. Pulling out all of the sweet nurturer in me- that gets bottled up in the day to day daydreaming. I always thought I would make a genuine nurse...

I just had to have proof of these mad nursing sessions Echo has with me. This has been going on since she was able to maneuver her body. And in all reality, these few moments caught on video, still do not catch the extremities of it all. Just gets out of hand ! Good thing I can see the humor in it, and only get frustrated some of the times. JM is always here to relieve* me some of the time. And of course a Mama just has to tell herself, it is OK to say no!

Fashion Freakout:

Amazing, good times were had. Over dose on hair-spray inhalation, lots of adrenaline and maybe one too many rock-n-roll ballads. I loved every minute of it, and was sad to see it come down to the wire . Which is why I am soo pleased they invited me back next year- and possibly some in-between. I will be commenting in my next post about some inspiration I got from friend's "visions" or looks from the show. Tie Dye !

Sparkle and Shine

This is Echo... a bit jazzy, pretty confrentational...a idea gal really. And doesn't she look just

right in rainbows ? The dress she is wearing in the film would be the 2nd dress I have ever

made her. I have to say it has been a long time coming. Since my 2nd trimester I have been

brushing up on basic sewing. January was my first month with a fresh start.

My grandmother gave me a brand new Singer- no more repair cost slow downs! And,

the biggest break through, space ! We have once in for all cleaned out the house, and did a lot

of rearranging. My space ended up being a wall in the living area, with windows all around

me. I'm not stuffed in somewhere, and it feels great t sit down at my table. I got organized,

and slowwedd wayyy on all my ideas. What you would call a "speed demon", sewer I am.

Smile at a big pile of "finished" projects that, well.... could show more

signs of a job well done. But anyhow I think its pretty OK for my firsts! The fabric was a

lovely friend's vintage find. That she said just called out to be made into something for little

E. She was right. Kangaroos colored in rainbows. With little roo's in their pouches. So

happy. I really free-handed the pattern from a dress of mine as a little one. My planning as

far as size was off, I desired it to be a 2T. I believe it is more of a 18 months. But still a fit.

I want to try this pattern next. So sweet, and very much like the home-schooler dresses I

admired as an elementary school child.

In our family, it is a time for love. Much concentration on its expression to one another, and

keeping peace for the sake of us all. Working through milestones, and trying our brightest to

make this new year one full of rainbows. Baby Echo has come to the point where she can

finally express her affection for us. And boy, are we melting like butter on a daily basis.

A child's affection and touch is pure joy. Most of the kisses and pats on the back are saved for

Papa. She is constantly awaiting that Papa to come home and make everything new, secure and

possible. After all... he can climb trees,ride a moped and make music.

Visions of chickens, clothes on a line, lambs and an open field

From the beginning, JM and I have bounced around from rental to rental. Like most youths do.

Unlike most youth, we do know were we are coming from- and were we want to end up.

As children, we were both anointed with trees to climbs, dirt roads to bike down, animals to care for, and a lot of open land to explore with a clear mind. Both of us took this open space as a healing place. Jm has a strong memory of climbing to a branch of a certain tree when life was getting him down. I had a nook in the woods behind my little house where I had hung ribbons from sticks and some old candles were lying around on the ground.

I have been thinking a lot lately about Echo, and where her special nooks will be.

Could there ever be silence for her in the city neighborhoods ?

Why is she already discontent with the boundaries of our nice front yard ?

She is but 2 feet tall. Finding glass and trash all among the pebbles in park is not exactly lovely and wondrous. All the natural beauty here seems to be 99% man made. And she is never alone.

I am currently reading and re-reading a book called " The Last Child in the Woods".

About the absence of nature in the lives of children today. Suburbia and the disturbing effects it has on the current and next generations. How true direct exposure to nature is essential for healthy development. Physically and emotional alike.

I highly recommend it to everyone. Because I know all of us our a bit worried about the way the modern world is affecting all of us and our families.

My prerogative is for my family to thrive. For us to not have to heal broken bonds one day.

These logistics bring about location delays. Time is a delicate balance on both sides of the fence- for JM and I. My will is to use all creative outdoor outlets that we are blessed with here, and pray that our place will someday reside in the country. It really will have to be a denial of many pleasures and convinces. My mother-in love Joyce was explaining in a scenario about how she had to die to all these things expected of her by peers. She was a pioneer in her early twenties for moving out to farmland and raising babies the old way.

The sacrifices our parents made for us to have a home, and a haven are the inspiration for our desire to be whole in this way.

Now, with our own child we feel honored. Bestowed to make the choices for our own new little life. We only pray that we will honor her environment as well as ours was.

whoa, mama freakout*

Recently a group of very fashionable, enthusiastic girl pals befriended me.

They have been wonderful, and are always up to something super hip.

They own vintage stores and online of the like- are photographers and their hubbies... musicians. So much to share in my world alike.

They invited me to model on the catwalk for a vintage fashion show in Feb.

yey! Reminiscent of my past, and such an outlet for me.

Abejah*

"honey bee"

Abejah is a little one I sit once a week while his Papa studies 18th century painting.

His Mama runs an organic Farm here in Austin, practically on her own. She is a lion of a lady- with much abundance for giving to the earth. I am so proud of their family, and how harmoniously they have come together. I have known this boy since he was 14 months, and now he is once again back in my life. He turns 4 on the 2nd of Feb. and man he is a boy !

He plays imaginatively, skips through the day and has a wonderful nature.

A perfect product of natural parenting. Was born at home, nursed until age 3. Loves nori seaweed and sushi. Knows every tree and plant by heart, and is more knowledgeable about gardening than I. To watch him settle into my home with ease and peace is remarkable to say the least. Echo and him go together like seaweed and rice, and played for more than 45 minutes quietly together with me just looking in. !! ( love this)

I have a nestle in my heart for him. I would draw him while he slept as a babe, and in these renders- his spirit is alive. He is the same boy now that he was then. Amplified.

A magic time in honor of Echo Delilah

This little party was complete with family and a few friends. There was a magic theme- rainbow of color streams, a silver tinsel xmas tree with moss all around, gingerbread cupcakes with sprinkles, ( nourishing traditions kid approved cakes:) and a bubble machine.

Many larger gifts- that were more excitement than her little dizzy head could handle.

I managed to make her the sweetest little birthday crown from wool, and a banner to match.

We started our Birthday ring as well, the first charm being a mushroom of course.

It is a rush to walk beside a one year old daily. Within months they sure turn from still life to a booming soul ! She sure has began to make her mark on this earth. And I couldn't be more ready to experience it through her eyes.

I am truly touched by your beating heart Echo Delilah. And I can assure you that I will always be here to love you like a precious angel. Happy 1 year old daughter.

Merry Making

Finally STILL and home with a car full of lovely things we have no room for ! Poor little house, you sure are packed to the rim. Echo is good for a whole year in toy-land. And us parents did get all that our hearts desired. Much more than that, we sure are reflecting on a year well spent.

On our anniversary night we over a nice dinner we came across a good summary for our two years together. Jm was telling me about 2 stepping with a good friend Bonny in Nashville.

I quickly and pitifully responded, " hey, we have never 2-stepped together..".

Jm- " honey we have hardly ever gotten to go out together at all to 2-step."

Me- " True. It was dating, on the road, marriage, pregnancy then baby Echo."

Jm- " Well look at it this away, we didn't waste anytime dating through our twenties. In two short years we have a started a family..."

Thats right. We do not waste time. I wonder what the next steadfast year will bring ...

Next dream plan... to move into a 70's trailer on a piece of land and live "like hippies" for a few months. To save $ for a house down payment. Can you imagine ? If the good Lord wills !

Tree topper

The last few weeks have been packed with icing on the cake. An anniversary, a first birthday and now here comes Christmas. We went and picked out a real tree this year, and no one is regretting it. The smell is sensational, really. And oh all the sights and feelings that come along with a lit up colorful tree. Echo has been very careful around the tree. Which has been so surprising with all of the Holiday excitement. Needless to say she is sooo busy!

At her party yesterday I never saw her little face! She was just zoom, zoom, zoom....

eating, chasing bubbles, diving into a ball pit- or just spitting out catch sayings.

Family Portrait, in a frame.

This month of December- much will arrive for our family. On the 19th, little E will turn one year old. And on the 16th... her parents will rejoice in 2 years of holy matrimony.

A few days ago JM turned 24 years old on the 29th. His Mama and I showered him with treasures. A framed psychedelic drawing of Joyce in High School, and a few handmade gifts to wear from us. I hope all felt right for him this year. It sure all feels right this year. With so much to carry on to the new year. This man sure does make the world spin round for us two girls. Much love Papa <3

In my own house

For many reasons, our fam is split for Thanksgiving this year.

My side is surrounding a sick Papa in the hospital and showering him with many prayers. Unfortunately all mine come from a distance, and from my rocking chair. I am most thankful here. Silently nursing my babe to sleep for naps, I get a strong wiff of youth and splendor. Holding new life in my arms, and wishing I could much in same way cradle my elder on a cloud of lullabies. Our Bubb and Aunt Birdy are hosting their Papa's for an intimate- rightfully needed dinner in New Braunfels. And due to travels, and a busy schedule- JM needs desperately to spend his last day in our house.

Therefore I get to cook a feast ! Of my own design ! Just what i love most.

On the menu?

A local free-range Turkey, 12 pounder!

Garlic-Dill Mashed Potatoes

Wild Mushroom Gravy

( grown in Austin)

Corn Bread/ Rye Jal. Stuffing

Yams

Curried Deviled Eggs

Cranberry Ginger Horseradish sauce

Rhubarb Pie from Wimberley Pie Co. (!!)

and Mulled Wine to warm the soul.

Yes, we are dressing her as an indian. A costume I made, headdress

and all. Followed by all this feasting will be a Thanksgiving get together hosted by some whimsical kindred spirit friends at their casa.

Cannot wait~ to dig into all my fresh farmer's market produce, and to sit cozy with a few loved ones in my Mama's lovely leather-feather skirt.

Nourishing Traditions <3

I have definitely always been on a health Nut trail. I will admit, but without spewing endearment I will lay my new dietary interest on you.

Nothing new in the this dense cookbook, yet somehow it will shock you.

The underline title reads "Challenges politically correct nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats. "

That applies to Vegans, Vegetarians, Atkins, Diet Fads, Low-fat and Macrobiotics'.

And you can't help but become a believer- the proof is all there. Scientific and historical proof.

Ancient civilizations really had all the basics we need today.

Based on 40-40-20, 40. 40 Carb., 40 Fats and 20 % protein. This reading promotes old fashioned animal fats as the building blocks for all assimilation's of the body. Diary, fermentation, sprouting and gelatins.

It has really done a number on my kitchen and grocery list. I am making my own stocks, learning meat cuts, pickling, not cautious with dairy... I have handled more meat in the last few weeks than ever in the life of Tara's kitchen. One really good thing is I found local milk at my Co-Op. It is pasteurized but at super low temp.'s so as not fill any proper enzymes. How divine it is, i tell you! You have never tasted milk until this. I buy ( and hope to soon make myself) sprouted bread now, the Genius brand you see in the freezer section, and sourdough from the bakery.

Make lots of not Veggie soups but Bone broth stews, Chicken Brown Rice Soup, Beef stew with Bugler...ect.

Load little E up with organic cheeses,Kefir and Yogurt. Little to no wheat for her though.

I even let her sip bone broth through a sippy cup.

My cooking school Chef's would be pretty proud. I never thought I would be cooking with traditional sauces on a daily basis, or broiling chicken bones. Life does have a way of coming around. Although reconnecting with once kindred semi- Vegetarian friends is a bit confusing for them, to say the least.

Some might think I sold my macrobiotic soul.

I might just have. Anyhow I highly recommend the Cookbook to you. I find it just as it is. Nourishing traditions. I imagine I have found my lifelong match.

And JM finally reunited with his now approved lifelong match, BUTTER. Oh and your wondering, did my grocery bill go up ? Barely, but I have less. Less stuff, and more wholesome foods. And meal planning, exactly what I was striving for. How to better feed my fam. more confidently.

Crossing the threshold

As you can see, today was the day. Full out walking. No crawls at all.

Picking up objects, across the gravel and over the thresholds.

have developed rapidly in the past 2 weeks or so.

dance like crazy to any music that comes to your ears. twist, and stomp your feet.

Every time a song ends, you clap. Smart baby Echo...

Eat a ton of food, where as 3 weeks ago you would turn away most bites.

Your favorite food to eat are strawberries.

Biting a Banana all by yourself from the peel.

Carrots are a hit also, broccoli and Onions.

Most of all -Kefir through your sippy cup.

You have long last** become aquatinted with your big girl car seat, and like it just fine.

If i talk you through most tasks, you help me out the best you can. Putting feet into shoes, ect.

When i was sick this week, you sensed it. And were very loving and snugly to me when i did hold you. This made the pain melt away.

Most favorite things to play with are baby dolls and stuffed animals.

Next you really love iridescent anythings. Globes, rocks...

And playing inside of things. Climbing into your toy box and rediscovering all of your playthings up close and personal.

Just climbing period.

I am a lover of decoration. Of all sorts really- my home, my feet, my fingers, my neck... It seems Little E has picked up on this constant from me. All things can be worn, she attempts to put around her neck. Most things don't make it you see... which makes for a large tangled pile of jewels. It looks like she will be a jewelry gal too.

Birds of a feather flock together.

Not in this case ! I made this dainty feather mobil for us last week. Collecting found feathers has been an interest of mine for a while and i finally got an idea of sorts to use them for.

Echo is especially entranced by it's quite beauty, so i decided to hang it over her nap time bed.

Give all the magnificence to the baby girl's mind...

Best reason

for gardening ? Sharing food. I believe so anyhow. Whether it be to nourish my intimate family- or my neighborhood. As a requirement for our community garden project, you are asked to share the food you harvested with others. They leave that up to your interpretation, but i cannot wait for the day to knock on a neighbor's door, with pride and soul in a basket.

Today a fellow gardener stopped little E and JM and offered us lots of saved food from a local co-op. !! free, organic produce really brightens the

day !! Asian pears, grapes, potatoes, bananas... and we were out of bananas ! How about that for provisions ?

Well the little garden spot is coming along. The biggest surprise has been mystery plants that have sprung up, carried seed from other beds i suppose. Good thing i waited awhile to weed....eeks..

Every where you look there are cilantro sprouts. Even as i water, i can smell cilantro. Tomorrow I will have to pick my first batch of red lettuce from a couple of plants. My very first home-grown salad.

Woodland Elf Hat

On this second post for today, i aim to catch up. The lack of posting was due to an intimate trip with family, publishing troubleshooting and because JM took our Mac on the road as a tool for his staying in touch with the world. Because living out of a van , motel rooms and from behind bright lights for 31 days straight can surely alienate you. We are all reunited, and this time we are looking very different to one another. Dad shaved his beard and little E is "HUGE".

He continually covered his eyes in shock, and sounded much like a parrot exclaiming " baby, you just don't seem real to me! ". They do change fast hubby, we must remember to embrace that.

Continuous wonder and surprises await us.

This week I finished a woodland elf hat for Echo. It just makes any outfit magical and so adorable you could just bottle her up and set her on a window seal.

I have already had a few commissions for others that wish to make the little one in their life a super fun elfin. Hey so much fun I will probably make myself one.

Life is a blur...

Okay so little E has been officially a walker for a week now. Wonderful. Dangerous. Frustrating.

Fantastical. The desire to wear shoes has begun and it pleases me so. I do think you can tell alot about a person by the shoes they wear, have worn in... See what i mean ?

As expected I do put some thought and intuition into the slippers she will wear on her feet now.

I imagine she would pick the same ones if her little desires were able to communicate.

Right now she is loving some suede moccasin boots- fuzzy on the inside.

My intuition also lead my predictions right on. Walking in the 10th month.

10th month... it reminds me were almost to 11. Which is almost a year old. crazy.

Hi, this is my One Year old child. Unimaginable.

I better get busy on a Birthday Banner and crown. The start of our family traditions.

During my first visit alone to my sister-in-luv's nearby park, I spotted the moss. The moss of my dreams. I have been searching for moss all over. Pricing it online, visiting moist spots surrounding me... Turns out it can be pretty pricey, and I never ran into any to transplant.

My ideal garden would be a fern, moss and mushroom bed. It could be pretty ideal for texas climate, in the shade that is. Anyway call me feverish- but i am scooping some of that mossy growth up! And shipping it back home.

All to make terrariums for my window seals. Doesn't E look like a piece of mossy moss herself?

together in our own home. Only one week left here, boy time does seem to speed by

The night before this one we laid all the overalls out, patched a knee for Sammy- and Jenny made tuna salad for a picnic. We were all too joyful about visiting the local farm.

There is nothing like critters to excite little minds. Oh, I cannot even imagine the wonder there as they look upon a magnificent creature, like a piglet and momma sow. Or a Clydesdale horse, and mule...

As we winded around the bends of the property on the hay-ride... my mind reeled through the possibilities of starting our daughters life. To wake each morning to this kind of nature, would be rewarding of all sorts. Needless to say the ride really took me back, to my own childhood. And Anne of Green Gables... The Little Women's....

Speaking of Little women, our lil Amelia Joy is quite the quirky doe.

After admiring the pigs, my niecey lerked down to the brook after some swimming ducks. Brother and sister got as close as possible without falling in the freezing water. Well, Amelia actully did dive head first into the water at one point, Anne catching her just in time for only a dip of the tip of her hair...

but soon she found away around us giggling geese ourselves and waded in the water after a duck.

Cold and Warm

So the best part of being cold ? Getting warm. I think 40% of why i adore the frost, is to layer.

I am loving my new knitted brown hat. It fits like a sloppy barite, and is almost identical to a vintage rust colored one i wore as a teen every winter. And speaking of hats- i have just been on the edge of my seat to stitch this little hat up. All three little kiddie cousins will be elves by the end of this trip. Back home, at a local fine fabric store i found the ultimate foundation for these hats. Organic wool....

As well as little brown flowers to embellish. I wish i could say i crocheted these myself, but that is skill i am yet to get some help with. You really need to be an apprentice to a pro knitter.

Or have access to one for advise anyway. I hope to get it soon.

But for an update today, we are loving our visit. We have taken over Jen's Becco carrier, and have taken a walk everyday to the park- for the duck pond of course.

Jet set.

Suit cases almost packed. We are all leaving for the month of October. Us girls, visiting Salt Lake City, most gratefully and gladly. We will be staying with the Hunt's. Living, loving and laughing a lot. I'm sure of it. Papa Johnny Mike is off to tour the mid west and Canada with Hayes Carll.

I am looking forward to many things about my travels. The first one, of course to see Echo, Sam and Amelia interact with each other. This is really the first stay where they can actually play with one another on some level. One very near day, there won't be a notable difference in ages. This is priceless, and all due to fait, lucky us. Secondly it thrills me to be packing warm clothes- scarfs and moccasins... mmm.

JM is anticipating many creative Hotel recordings with a like-minded buddy on the road, using a portable recording system. And of course, all of his new stage outfits he has already put together.

Growing a flower child

Let me catch up here before i fall in. I feel like at this moment in time, we are on the edge of an ocean. So much has past us, much too rapidly. And ahead is a flurry of change! What a lively, double gestation period!

I mean since her conception, up until the present 9 months old- it seems so fantastical. What a lightning speed concept babies are ...

Uh hum, anyhow ...

Here is the fresh in on my mind nightcap on Echo Delilah ( aka: Boo Boo, Echo D, Echoes, Ly Lee )

A little over 9 months you are :

22 pounds and slimming down a bit...

Clapping your hands, dancing like a little queen and walking with little assistance.

Climb up and back down stairs all by yourself, open doors, turn faucets, open the fridge and stove.

So curious, so suspicious- yet, daring ! You seem so tough for a baby girl, and adventure until someone stops you.

Your favorite things are :

Kitties- real and your stuffed Cheetah Sheena. Textures galore! Shells, glass bottles, guitars and music.

Someone opening the door to outside: dirt, flowers, water dripping from the hose, birds, dogs... and well anything alive.

You sign for bird, milk, puppy & cat. Usually you are too busy to eat, but will sit in my lap for avocados, yogurt, almond butter, eggs, tofu and black beans. Also enjoy tomatoes, berries and juices. Very independent about spooning the food your self, and have a ball "dipping".

Our bond feels extra strong, and very intimate. When I see you, I feel almost one with you child. You are but an extension of my body right now. There are rare times when I cannot understand what you are trying to communicate, and even since the first look, I knew just what you wanted. You scarcely cried as an infant, and I am so grateful you have remained with that contentment. I look with amazement at your strength, and quick learning.

What a beautiful observer you are.

And how firery you are. A bit of a temper, but sweeten up pretty fast.

You sleep great, well for our standard. :)

For weeks now, you and I have snuggled on the floor together in the nights. All to my doing of course, you see I always kept her so close to me while sleeping. You always ending up across the pallet, sprawled out. What a restless sleeper you have always been. Luckily, I have never felt deprived of rest, and at this moment- do not plan on sleep training.

Everyone that meets you says your such a jolly baby that it is dangerous! Because you make being your Mama look easy. I love that, because our key to happiness is our little secret.

In a few short months you will be one year old, and i am so siked about that ! MMMhhaw! I love you little queenie !

Daydreamer

Cause of the absence ?? Daydreaming in the evenings. I find that I do go through many periods of reflecting, in which I am usually "somewhere else".

I could not dig up past experiences but I will tell you where my mind was drifting this day...

Wonderlust house searching. I want to be in one with alot of natural elements, and in the thick of deep woods. There will be moss near by, clear stream beds for Echo to frolock in, and small animals to befriend. True fantacy huh ? Well, we hope in reality to come some place close to our magical aboad. Whatever that may be. A few known friends of ours have recently purchased exceptionaly groovy houses- decorated the like. Vintage furniture, rolling backyards- "large enough to park an Airstream in". I must say we live for asthetic. Right now, we are in a constant state of home, sweat home searching.

Just so you know, we are oh so comfortable and lovey dovey in our current nest- and plan to stay around here for awhile...

or will we ? Ah, the possibilities...

Poor ol' dirt farmer

This afternoon Mother and Son tilled our little garden space. While operating the tiller, JM asked me..." is this what you were expecting ? ". What does that mean you say ?

I take it that he didn't realize how much hard labor it takes to prepare the earth for planting seed. But what fruit you will produce from this labor !

Today was not my day to physically help, because I had a needy little bean on my hip.

But when the sun starts to set tomorrow, I will be finishing up the ground work by pulling the rest of the weeds up - and turning compost into the soil.

Then, we get to place the plants into the ground to grow. That part will be heavenly. Our plan is pretty ambitious, but why not ?

I mean the more we go at it, the more we learn. I thank my Mom in -love Sissy for all she attributed, heart and hand. Also to my husband for sweating his little beard off.

Autumn projects

This season change will be the first my girl has witnessed. I cannot wait to see how she reacts to change. Not to mention we have a big trip coming up soon. I will be visiting my sister in-luv and two tots in SLC. Where the trees will really be burning the autumn glow...

But before all that, my days will be busy tending a fall garden. My first vegetable one ever. Just a hop, skip and a jump down my street at the Alamo Community Garden. How gratifying I expect all the work to be. Just to be able to really kneel down over soil and dig my fingers down into the earth... really all the space I have, all the possibilities...

I have already schemed up a yard art corner and all. The plot is about 15 by 10 ft.

My good neighbor Karin is going in with me. She had been on a waiting list for over a year now, and insisted it be my own as well. I hope to meet other community enthusiast, and wish to maybe meet some new Momma friends. But most of all have a purpose to stand many mornings and evenings out side as the leaves fall from the trees. ( Plus I can stop snooping in other persons gardens ) Already I have conversed with a pregnant lady who is due in early February, growin babies- growin a garden.... i love it !

Music for chameleons

It seems that we have been nesting for over a year now. Which should be reasonable timing for a new home, except when your little house is not even 1000 square feet. This being where the problem lies, no storage.

So we did away with the nursery. For some folks it is necessary, but for us it is just unreasonable. She sleeps beside us in our room, so we decided to stop pretending like she used her own room. We made a trip to ikea ( so fun for me ) and did some organizing.

She now has the sweetest set up at the front of the living area, all to her own. It is so functional and there has been much more quiet play on her part. We just really wanted her feel apart of our home, and we think she does now.

We keep all of her toys in a toybox, and just remove certain ones for that day, and place them on her shelf. This is an idea I got from Montessori. It really helps them to focus. If you noticed the prisms in the window down low/ and the painting (for her enjoyment and amazement at sunset) this is also going along with the theory of bringing beauty down to the child's level. Because why should we have all the decorations at our own tall, eye level ?

If you were wondering what we have done with the nursery space... it is now a groovy music room/ sewing nook. Complete with a white shag rug, and stained glass light bulbs. More on that later, and the creativity it has already brought us both.

I included captures on Echo's activities that she works on daily. Magnetic rocks, rings on a bottle neck- and the famous bean project. She seems to be developing like a genius ! ( yes my little genius) I mean really, signing bird and milks. Waving bye bye - and mimicking a range of sounds back to us. We even have taught her a few tricks. Bowing her head to thank you and please. Of course we just couldn't be more pleased about how she seems to be flourishing.

You always wonder how you will really all fit together.

And I will say that we fit together SO good.

I come alive in Fall

Today is our first day of fall weather. And what a contrast it is to last week. After a week ending with a hurricane on the Texas coast, the winds sent cool air our way. To my surprise the "cold front" we are experiencing all week is not a bit because of the storm.

In truth, I wait all through the seasons for autumn. I know I should appreciate each one, but I am such a moody person. My best moods just happen to be when all the earthy tones are around me. The mysterious winds, rustling leaves and varieties of pumpkin flavored things.

The whole package brings to me a certain zest for the new day. I can't tell you, I am frisky thinking of it being here now !

We are actually wearing sweaters and socks around the house. Echo's little toes and nose were really icy, and she just really took her time getting used to long sleeves and cloth on her feet.

She still won't stop tugging at her socks. Looking out the window at the bending trees, and halting to listen for the wind chimes.

John Michael rides away to work in the cool weather, sailing trough the currents on his moped.

I hope you all are enjoying the thoughts of Fall blowing in as well . . .

Babes in toyland

Our house is the playhouse to our little friend Mia. Well she is a big girl to Echo, indeed. Its a trade off of sorts when MIa comes to play. They just entertain each other so. Above Mia was frolocking with a feather in hand, while Echo spun in circles, infected with enthusiasm. The need to interact and to grow up capable - and happy (!) just shines in a babe's face. You just know they really need it.

Dulcinea

you are wonderful, and a luxury. This weekend we got away for some peace and harmony.

We find ourselves really needing this as a family, because we don't wish to get caught up in the day to day life. These times help us to come together. We stayed in the hill country at a dear friends stucco home, planted on the side of a downward slope, nessled amongst trees. It is a haven for sure, and my dream home. Inside and out it beholds hundreds of hispanic treasures.

A culture of mystics that has always hit my vein. Dulcinea they named her, which is what Echo's middle name was going to be. The name of the Chapel were we were wed, and the character in my favorite book. How bout all that?

Her beauty cannot be retold, nor the tranquility she is.

He designed his own retreat to begin the days... a favorite (vital) pastime of his.

There were duet serinades by moma and dad on the porch swing. how many songs can we write with Echo as the muse ? Never ending I tell you....

And Barb's fox friends - acted extra suspicious of us visitors.... slying around at night so that we

didn't think it was wise to hang out at nightfall on the porch... they even barked and growled ( like a demon, says JM) at us ...

Blue hole, so blue in fact... just clear clean hill country swimming. Rope swings, not a sole

around... and cool water to submerge into.

This pup heard us show up the second we got to the banks, dove into the water- and carried with him the huge branch for us to play fetch with. Hilarious. She would bark and Echo would cry out ahhh! back at her. Really, she was a funny bunny. Only would fetch LOGS or branches. No sticks. She stuck around and amused us all the while.

Love these buns. Got to get the shots in before she gets all grown up on us...

It ended with Market Days, where a sensitive, generous old man refused to take my money for aprons and linens from his booth. He said that God was good everyday, and he just requested that we take care of one another. There is nothing like a blind bit of faith from another- to make you feel watched over, and blessed.

Mammy makes me laugh.

Ever since I can remember, my Momma has told us; I just can't wait for those grand-babies!

MOM, I am 12.... Needless to say, the first phone calls made to family announcing a little one on the way, she about blew my eardrum out with excitement in her voice. On arriving in my laboring room, she couldn't stop smiling and shrugging- the way women do when they can't keep in anticipation. Which was really a refresher at that point in the night. For I knew I was about to dive into the toughest pain on the earth- and for her to come into my space with the ending result of joy in mind, made the feeling of holding my Echo surpass any fear.

She is also a gift giver by nature. This time she brought with her treasures from Colorado and New Mexico. The beau and herself just returned from their annual trek into the mountains by motorcycle. Along the way, they encounter unspeakable beauty, adventure, good bloodymary's, bear poop, campsites, patriotic lil towns, canible grave sites, waterfalls, steep cliffs, earthship houses, navajo indians, stall peeping girls, busted tires, old friends and their bacon Lovin daughter.....( that ate a 6 inch sausage link by herself, 3 pc. bacon and 2 pc. toast from their breakfast !)

My most prized gift, "ghost beads" made from juniper and glass, by navajo indians. To ward off my evil dreams of course. JM's favorite- a silver indian head bolo, and a Red ring he won't share. Delilah has a newest edition to her pretty set of indian dolls- half of which were passed down from my childhood. She came dressed in a black velvet dress, with such perfect stamp painted face. And a little baby bundled up in clothe.

The best part of now, is that it seems like yesterday I were putting the dolls away for "my daughter". I am so proud that the day has come in the blink of my eyes. Ah, the beauty of being young in Motherhood.....

No one yet has been able to make Echo D belly laugh like Mammy. They had so many moments were I thought for sure that child's face hurt from smiling so wide. :) I almost had to save her from all the laughter ...

just soaking one another up after long days apart from Dad. This little girl thrives in nature. Forgets its her bed time, and collides straight into exploration of her surroundings and abilities. We admire her so... :)

Tagged to spill

I am by no means a creature of habit. Each next time I clean or sew, paint or dress- is a different experience. Here and there I am, never had many rituals.

Smell is first things, first with me. I will be shopping, and sniff the gloves immediately after admiring them. This goes for people as well. I judge a person only by their scent some times.

People catch me doing this often.

I was made maternal. My dear Momma would always have to remind me, " you are not the Mother Tara, I am. " A woman I once knew called me Madonna. Close male friends did nickname me Wendy, just like Peter Pan and the lost boys. If you were to leave your baby at my door step, I would take her inside - nurse her, and make her my own. The downfall to this is, I have too many attempts to "save" another in my lifetime.

I have never had my hair cut by anyone other than my Momma. And I have never been a make-up user.

Seriously, in my kitchen... you will find no measuring cup.

And I cook 3 meals a day, bake and follow recipes sometimes.

Every Best Friend I have had comes in pairs.

Twins that is. Always. 4 pairs of friends I have had. Once in HS, I had a "single" friend, only to find out shortly after growing close to her, that her twin brother died at birth.

Freaky, Huh ?

While living in Brooklyn, I had a cat that stalked me. For almost 2 months.

He would always be waiting for me morn/night to leave my apartment. Sleep at my window. Would not take food ( meat or cat nip ) and acted insane if someone else was around me. A bizarre artist man that lived in a gothic earthship around the corner, told me one eery day, that he knew the cat was following me.

( had to throw that one in, do you have goose bumps yet ? )

Unexplainable

My hearts delight is in the absurd. These fungi popped up a few days back, and I have never seen any just like them. I hope they stick around, and maybe spread around...

Another surprise was when i knelt down to their world for a capture, my lens fogged and created this haze. Or maybe the moisture from all of us involved had much to do with this.

Lately after a morning run, I soak the yard- make sure everyone is healthy and happy, then drench my own self and lay down on the cobblestone for some reflection.

Which always sends me to prayer... because how mystical is even your own front yard ?

Dirty, mushrooms, leaves, grassy, roly-polies... or perhaps something new to find in the yard?

Honestly I just let her loose everyday now on the lawn out front. For whatever reasons, we just started this. Crawling, not eating all things,ect. When she gets down she skivvies off like a rabbit searching for his hole to fall into. Not glancing behind for security. Will not return to me, look in my eyes, until its time to go in for some milk. A spirit that is soo reminiscent of her father's. Truly trill seeking, and incautious. I place all bets that this critter will be walking by 10 months. Look at these pushing skills....... .... ....... ...

I wish you a wonderful year ahead. Our family has changed so much since you came along.

Yet in such a graceful, subtle way. Very much like your tendency. A new honesty is here, amongst us... as well as a calmness that you bring my Mother. I knew from the first days I spent with you that hot summer building the cabin, that you were such a genuine man.

And a handsome one at that ! I have admired your service and hard works- but mostly always hold dear that i can trust the look in your eyes.

Look what I have

Pomegranates growing on my tree, potato vines growing like weeds... and the most treasured bloom- blood lilies. They come unexpectedly in the night and only stay around a few moons.

Neighborhood Love :: take 1

Our neighborhood, its a doozie. What I mean is, it has so many sweat layers. And well it is an oddity of sorts. But we will get to that through posts.

Here to start out, from the top- we have an explanation of the gentrification issues going on here on East side. Lots of "yuppies" moving in on the "soul" of this side of town.

Up in those trees there ? Parrots. Or "love parrots" so they say. Yes, we have a flock of lime green parrots that live amongst the native birds.

Third, the home of our dreams. 70's architecture, a basement and a green lawn.

Man, we love this place.

Take 2 of the hood includes a dead cat named Alice and the mysterious "meet me at the mailbox boys". We will also introduce you to Luella, our 92 year old next door neighbor.

I have a new batch of handmade things coming to my Etsy shop in about a week.

Which include; clutches made from vintage fabric & buttons, sweet vintage baby clothes,

and a few more surprises. I am excited to finally chose a theme, and work on it. My mind reals with creations, but at the present- i am most concerned with sustainability for my family. Supplies to get started can get costly, and for now i will not fret. All in good time !

Make me happy
